Rob Lowe: 'Don't call me Grandpa!'
Rob Lowe told People he’s excited to further expand his family, especially as a wedding is in the near future.
Rob Lowe can’t wait to be a grandfather, but has some specific demands about what his grandchildren will call him.
The 62-year-old actor told People he’s excited to further expand his family, especially as a wedding is in the near future, explaining: “[My son] Matthew is engaged and getting married in October. And then I’m going to be pressuring them for grandchildren.”
However, Rob admitted there are a few nicknames he’s determined not to be called.
He added: “I don’t need to get ahead of myself, but I’m very focused on not being called Grandpa. But what’s the appropriate, like, on-brand name?”
Among the options are “Papa Rob”, he admitted, and he previously said that while his granddaughter is too young to call him anything as yet, “American doesn’t need Grandpa Rob Lowe”.
But as he waits for more grandchildren, Rob is keeping himself busy with one project after another.
He said: “I like to work. I like the opportunities.”
“One of the things that’s so satisfying for my career is that it could be anything. Not everyone gets to do that. There are ‘lists,’ and sometimes you don’t get to be on multiple ones.”
Among the projects Rob is taking on is a Netflix one he’s “very excited” about, a Christmas movie, a third book and his podcast, Literally! With Rob Lowe.
Another gig that could be in the works is a sequel to 1985 movie St. Elmo’s Fire, which also starred Demi Moore and Andie MacDowell, as he told E! News that the concept is “very fertile storytelling ground”.
He explained: “I’m as interested in what happened to these characters in this stage of their lives as I was being interested in them post-college.
“I would argue that it's even more complex and deep and rich and interesting and more storytelling opportunities when you're in the middle of your life than you were post-college.”
Rob’s admission about wanting to be a grandfather comes after he admitted to having something of an obsession with his kids and their personal lives.
He told AARP The Magazine: “I have a probably overly inappropriate interest in my sons' love lives — because I'm angling for grandkids. “It better happen!"
