Sir Rod Stewart cancels California gig hours before show after falling ill
Sir Rod Stewart was set to perform at Chula Vista’s North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre on Friday night (12.06.26).
Sir Rod Stewart cancelled a gig at short notice on Friday (12.06.26) after falling ill.
The 81-year-old rocker could not perform at Chula Vista, California's North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre because he is battling laryngitis, a condition where the voice box or vocal cords become irritated or swollen.
A statement posted to his Instagram Stories on Friday read: "Rod Stewart very regretfully has had to cancel his show tonight in Chula Vista, California.
"He travelled to the venue and made every effort to perform, but on the advice of his doctor, and following a diagnosis of an acute upper respiratory infection, that has resulted in laryngitis, he is unable to take the stage this evening."
In another slide, Rod posted a shot of himself on the empty venue's stage as he apologised to his disappointed fans for the show's cancellation.
The Maggie May hitmaker penned in a third story: "Well, here I am in beautiful Chula Vista as the stage is being taken down behind me.
"Following treatment, I'm feeling much better, but my voice is not.
"I'm very disappointed and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I did everything I could to make the show happen tonight, but, unfortunately, it just wasn't possible.
"I will do my utmost to reschedule. Rod."
According to the National Health Service (NHS), laryngitis can cause voice loss, a hoarse voice, a persistent cough, a sore throat, and persistent throat clearing, with symptoms usually clearing up "within one to two weeks".
Rod's latest health ordeal comes weeks after he cancelled his May 29 and 30 The Encore Shows residency gigs at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas at the last minute after a vocal rest order from doctors.
The It's a Heartache performer said: "My apologies to my family of fans. I am on vocal rest as I recover from a sinus infection. I look forward to seeing you at a future show at Caesars Palace or on tour this summer.”
Rod resumed his performances on June 2.
