Pete Davidson ‘utterly confused’ as Elsie Hewitt says she’s raising their daughter ‘on my own’
Pete Davidson’s friends say the comedian is struggling to understand Elsie Hewitt’s claim she is raising their baby daughter alone, insisting his focus has been on supporting both her and their girl Scottie since the couple’s split.
Pete Davidson is said to find claims his model ex Elsie Hewitt is raising their baby daughter on her own “utterly confusing”.
The comedian, 32 – best known for Saturday Night Live, the film The King of Staten Island and his semi‑autobiographical series Bupkis – and Elsie, 30, went public with their relationship last year and revealed they were expecting a child four months into their romance, before pals said they had split around five months after the birth of their daughter Scottie.
Elsie has since used social media to say she was “doing it on my own, which is hard” – promoting an insider to now tell Page Six: “Pete’s main priority right now is making sure that Elsie and Scottie are looked after, so it’s utterly confusing to everyone who knows them why she would possibly post anything about him not supporting her.”
An insider added to the outlet: “I was happy for (Pete and Elsie.) They seemed pretty strong.
“(But) the two of them maybe clashed too much. Having a baby is difficult – no one can prepare you for what happens after you have a baby.”
And another source close to the couple told Page Six “their issues were not related to the baby” and said there were signs of incompatibility before Scottie’s birth.
Multiple sources said fatherhood has long been important to Pete, who lost his father, New York City firefighter Scott Davidson, 33, in the 9/11 attacks and later drew on that experience in The King of Staten Island.
A source close to Pete added to Page Six: “It’s something he’s always wanted and really looked forward to.”
They also described his split from Elsie as “a sad situation for everyone.”
In previous relationships, the end of a romance has coincided with periods of mental health and addiction struggles for Pete, who has spoken about PTSD, depression, borderline personality disorder and substance abuse.
After his engagement to singer Ariana Grande ended in 2018 following a brief relationship, Pete posted on Instagram: “I really don’t want to be on this earth anymore. I’m doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don’t know how much longer I can last.”
