Kehlani 'did different forms of therapy' after bipolar diagnosis
Kehlani has opened up about her experience of borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder.
Kehlani gained a "tool belt of awareness" after being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder.
The 30-year-old singer went public with her diagnosis in 2025, and Kehlani has revealed how her life has changed subsequently.
Speaking to VIBE, Kehlani explained: "When you finally have the tools, you have the diagnosis. But along with the diagnosis comes the work.
"So upon getting diagnosed, I got medicated and [did] different forms of therapy [like] somatic healing, but I also gained this tool belt of awareness. I'm starting to recognise my symptoms and triggers. I'm starting to learn what kind of life I have to lead as a person whose mind is different."
Kehlani has also made the people around her more aware of her issues and her needs.
She's told people close to her: "Hey, if you see these signs [of] I'm not sleeping, I'm not eating, I'm talking really fast. All of a sudden, I want to pick up 17 new hobbies, and I might dye my hair pink, maybe call me in and tell me I'm tripping. Call my psychiatrist. I'm in crisis."
Kehlani first shared news of her diagnosis via a social media post in April 2025.
The Folded hitmaker wrote on Facebook at the time: "i never saw myself making it to 30 growing up. 1 in 10 BPD diagnosed people die at their own hands. 7 in 10 make an attempt. i’ve had a crazy life.. but the last year changed my world. accountability, commitment, growth and change. finally having a diagnosis (BPD and Bipolar disorder), medication, routine, discipline, sobriety, solitude, GOD and commitment to wholeness alone.. changed my world. i said i wasn’t bringing any of my old s*** into this new life i’ve birthed. i feel fully prepared. while im entirely grateful to who she was, she’s so much better now. so worthy of all the great things. so worthy of love. she knows it now. nothing in the way of my peace, my blessings and my relationship with God. back into this album. really happy to be alive. really really.
