Kehlani encourages artists to 'speak out against what's going on'
Kehlani addressed the recent unrest in the US after winning a Grammy Award.
Kehlani urged the music community to "speak out against what's going on" after winning a Grammy Award on Sunday night (02.01.26).
The 30-year-old star addressed the recent unrest in the US, after she received the Grammy for Best R and B performance for Folded, her viral hit.
Speaking on stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Kehlani said: "What I wanna make sure that I say is that everybody is so powerful in this room … and together, we’re stronger in numbers to speak against all the injustice going on in the world right now.
"So instead of letting it be just a couple of you here and there, I hope everybody’s inspired to join together as a community of artists and speak out against what’s going on.
"I’m gonna leave this and say, f*** ICE."
Kehlani also addressed the issue on the red carpet before the Grammys.
The singer - who wore an "ICE out" pin on her outfit - told The Hollywood Reporter: "I really wanted to say ‘f*** ICE,’ but I think they needed some ‘couth’ or something on the carpet.
"I’m a little couthless, ruthless. But I think everybody, we’re too powerful of a group to all be in the room at the same time and not make some kind of statement in our country. It’s brainless to me."
Kehlani won her second Grammy for Best R and B song for Folded. And the After Hours hitmaker - who was born and raised in California - dedicated her second success to her mom.
She said in her acceptance speech: "My mother adopted me. You didn’t have to. You didn’t have to give up your life for me. You could’ve done whatever you wanted in your 20s but instead you chose to take care of me, and to put me in all the programmes, and all the things that would feed who I am today.
"So, Mommy, I owe you everything. I love you so much."
