Sydney Chandler feared telling her father Kyle Chandler that she wanted to act
Sydney Chandler has recalled how she was fearful of telling her father Kyle Chandler that he wanted to follow in his footsteps by acting.
Sydney Chandler was "terrified" to tell her father Kyle Chandler that she wanted to go into acting.
The 30-year-old star has confessed that she felt a sense of trepidation about informing her father - whose credits include Friday Night Lights - that she had caught the performing bug.
Sydney told People: "I mean, he always said, 'This is the last job we want.' And I never wanted to act. I went to school to study poetry.
"Never really liked being in front of people, quite introverted. And then I ended up taking an acting class, kind of an a whim, and something... And I was terrified to tell my dad that I wanted to do it."
The Alien: Earth actress continued: "And so, I kind of kept that under the radar until I was picking up a little bit. And then I was like, 'Oh, hey, I'm trying this now.'
"But he's been really, really helpful now being in it, especially trying to figure out the business and how it works."
Sydney explained how she looks up to her father and his laidback approach to life.
She said: "My dad is so grounded.
"He lives in Wrangler jeans and rides his tractor and feeds our miniature donkeys. He's just a good, solid human. So to be able to look up to someone like him is so helpful. It helps me stay grounded in the present."
Sydney explained how she was still learning about the industry after she wasn't featured in a Variety cover shoot for Alien: Earth last year after she declined the chance to take part in a game of How Well Do They Know Each Other? with her co-stars.
The Pistol star told Entertainment Weekly: "It was really unfortunate. I really wanted to be there for the photo shoot, and I was ready to talk anything and everything Alien.
"I did not know at the time it was a dealbreaker, to (not) do a game and personal question thing. Again, new to this; I haven't done something like that before. I felt uncomfortable doing something like that.
"Unfortunately, I was uninvited from the rest of the shoot. I never meant to offend."
Chandler continued: "I'm figuring this world out. I'm figuring out how much of my personal self I need to give, I want to give, I feel comfortable giving. It's a really personal journey.
"So I'm learning a heck of a lot on this press tour. Once this is completed, I'll have a bit of a foundation and be able to go from there."
