Why did Harry Styles get the giggles at his grandmother's funeral?
Former One Direction star Harry Styles has revealed he got a case of the giggles at his grandmother's funeral due to a specific song that was played inside the crematorium.
Harry Styles got the giggles at his grandmother's funeral when The Beatles song The Long and Winding Road began to play as her coffin was heading to the furnace.
The 32-year-old pop star lost his grandma Beryl Styles in 2014 when she was 86, and Harry - who was 20 at the time - has confessed he couldn't stop himself from laughing inside the crematorium when the song began to play, despite it being such a sombre occasion.
Appearing on the Royal Court podcast, he said: "I remember being at my grandma’s funeral, and as the belt started, it just went ‘the long and winding road’, and it made me laugh.
“It feels so inappropriate. And then I just started thinking about inappropriate cremation songs… And then I was off.”
The former One Direction singer admits he "really likes" the idea of inappropriate cremation songs, and he thinks that Dan Hartman's Relight My Fire, Disco Inferno by The Trammps and Johnny Cash classic Ring of Fire are all great examples of tongue-in-cheek tracks for people's final farewell.
Back in 2016, Harry's sister Gemma revealed how a 1D fan overstepped at Beryl's funeral by asking for a picture at the memorial.
Writing for The Debrief about inappropriate times to take a selfie with Harry, his sibling Gemma said: "My most frustrating personal experience of this was the 'friend'/distant relative at my grandma’s funeral who was trying to bring in her granddaughter or niece or someone to have a picture with my brother.
"At a funeral. Our grandmother’s funeral. 'Smh' doesn’t really cover it."
Harry recently described Gemma as one of his "best friends" because no one knows him as well as she does, and he thinks they have a "beautiful" bond.
Asked who is least impressed by his fame, he told BBC Radio 2's Scott Mills: "My sister… in like the most beautiful way, in the way that makes me feel so wonderful and loved by her. "It's not what we talk about. It’s just in a way that it makes me so full. She is not that bothered [about the fame].
"I also think as you get a little bit older as well and you have siblings that then you choose to be friends with, ends up being like a really beautiful friendship in your life. She's one of my best friends and she knows me better than anyone."
Harry - who shot to fame on The X Factor in 2010 when 1D were created by music mogul Simon Cowell - is about to release his fourth solo album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally on March 6.
