Kelsey Grammer has become a father for the eighth time.

The 70-year-old actor announced that he and his fourth wife Kayte Walsh have recently welcomed son Christopher together in the latest addition to his healthy brood.

Kelsey told Pod Meets World: "Just had our fourth one, so it just became eight kids!

"It was like three days ago. Christopher just joined the family."

The Frasier star and Kayte now have four kids together, with Christopher joining daughter Faith, 13, and sons Kelsey Gabriel, 11, and Auden James, eight.

Kelsey became a dad for the first time in 1983 when he had daughter Spencer, 42, during his marriage to his first wife Doreen Alderman.

He also has daughter Kandace Greer, 33, from his relationship with hair and make-up artist Barrie Buckner and welcomed daughter Mason, 24, and son Jude, 21, with his third wife Camille Mayer.

Grammer has acted with Kandace in the Frasier revival and alongside Spencer in the television film The 12 Days of Christmas Eve and is delighted to have had the chance to work with his offspring.

He told Variety last year: "Kayte and I were talking about how it's really something that a child would follow in the father's footsteps.

"To think that all my kids, at least the ones that have a hand in the air, are ready to take responsibility for their lives, are all drawn to this industry. And she said, 'That's something to be proud of.' It's something I've never told them. I'm hoping they're going to read (my upcoming memoir) and realise, 'Oh, so Dad's okay with this.'

"Because I never wanted to push myself on them. I never wanted to force them into the industry or intrude too much into their process. Because it's a bit of a mixed blessing to have my last name. People take it out on you. You get some attention maybe because of it. And there's a split as to whether or not it's good or bad."

The Simpsons star added that he is at his happiest when all of his kids "are in the same room together".

Kelsey said: "My work has allowed me to do that.

"I've been given this great experience. It's been painful and challenging and hard and tragic - all those things. But boy, it's a great life. And I want to pass that on to them."
