Drake Bell admits his son has helped him since opening up about his childhood abuse.

The 38-year-old actor - who has his four-year-old son with ex-wife Janet Von Schmeling - revealed on last year's docuseries 'Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV' that he was he was sexually abused by dialect coach Brian Peck during his time on Nickelodeon between 1999 and 2000.

Asked about his biggest support system since the documentary aired almost a year ago, he told E! News: "I have my son, he just loves me 'cause I'm me. I love it, it's just amazing."

The former 'Drake and Josh' actor admitted since talking about the abuse he suffered, it feels like there has been a "weight lifted".

He explained: "There was this feeling of the weight lifted, and walking lighter. That was very unexpected.

"People are coming up now, not just for photos, they're talking and sharing their stories, and talking about how my story impacted them."

Drake revealed while his son is still too young to watch him in 'Drake and Josh', he's still been able to see other projects, like the 'Fairly Odd Parents' live action movies.

However, his boy was confused watching 2012's 'Fairly Odd Christmas' when Santa Claus (Donavon Stinson) kept calling the actor by his character's name, Timmy.

He laughed: "My son's like, 'Why do they keep calling you Timmy? You're dada!' I was like, oh my gosh, this is so adorable!"

Drake previously revealed how setting an example to his son was part of the reason he came forward as a victim of child abuse.

he told the 'Today' show last year: "As he grows, he's going to hear things, and people are going to have opinions.

"But my hope is that he'll be able to say, 'Yeah, my dad did go through that. Yeah, that did happen to my dad. Yeah, my dad did do that.

"'But the man I've known my whole life and the man that I know today is a hero to me. And the fact that he's been able to get through these things has helped me be able to face the world and not let it tear me down.'"
