Lisa Kudrow has been "celebrating" Matthew Perry by watching old episodes of 'Friends', even though she's always found it "embarrassing" watching herself.
Lisa Kudrow has been "celebrating" Matthew Perry by watching old episodes of 'Friends'.
The 60-year-old actress - who portrayed Phoebe Buffay in the long-running sitcom - spent years unable to tune into the show because it was "too embarrassing to watch" herself but she is now rewatching the programme as a way to pay tribute to her late friend and co-star, who died last October aged 54.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: "“Honestly, I wasn’t able to watch it because it’s too embarrassing to watch yourself. But if I make it about Matthew, then that’s OK.
“And it’s just celebrating how hilarious he was — and that is what I want to remember [about him].”
Last month marked 20 years since the show's final episode aired and despite the passing of time, Lisa is "blown away" by just how funny her castmates were.
She said: “I’m laughing out loud, and everyone is hilarious. I’m blown away by Courteney Cox. I’m blown away by Jen [Aniston].
"Matthew, obviously, is just uniquely hilarious. No one ever knew that cadence or comedic rhythm before him.
"Matt LeBlanc is hilarious. And David Schwimmer, too. Sometimes I even laugh at what I’ve done.
“So yeah, I mean, that’s my own little way of celebrating [the anniversaries], just watching it. But it’s embarrassing. At home, if anyone walks in the room and I’m watching 'Friends', that’s a horrible look, I think, don’t you?”
Even when the cameras weren't rolling on the programme, the cast were "always laughing so hard".
Lisa said: “You’re just laughing all day long, basically, in between the scenes, because these are funny people.
"And especially someone like Matthew, whose goal was: How many laughs can I get in real life every day? So we were always laughing so hard, tears were flying out of our faces."
The 'Time Bandits' actress thinks her friend would be pleased at the way he has been remembered following his shock death.
Asked how she hopes the world will remember Matthew, she said: "I think the world is remembering him the way he wanted to be remembered. I think that’s happening [already].”
