The Conjuring director James Wan marks 'end of an era' as production continues on sequel
As production on the final sequel 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' continues, director James Wan has paid tribute to actors Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson and marked the "end of an era" for him and the franchise.
'The Conjuring' creator James Wan has marked the "end of an era" as production on the last sequel continues.
The 47-year-old director has helmed the horror franchise and its spin-offs like 'The Nun' and 'Annabelle' since its 2013 debut and has paid tribute to actors Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as they continue working on the final entry in the series, 'The Conjuring: Last Rites'.
On Instagram, the filmmaker shared a photo from the movie set which included production chairs for Farmiga and Wilson with the caption: "Always good to see and hang out with old friends. Gonna miss everyone. End of an era."
Vera, 51, returned pleasantries with the filmmaker and commented: "Love you (sic)."
'The Conjuring: Last Rites' will follow paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Farmiga and Wilson respectively) as they work on another demonic case after the events of 2021's 'The Devil Made Me Do It'.
Wan said the film – which releases next year and will be the fourth instalment in the series – would be the last entry into the franchise because the team was "very precious" about the I.P.
Speaking with Collider, the 'Aquaman' director said: "With 'The Conjuring' films, we are very precious about [them].
"And so we kind of want to just take our time to make sure we get it right and to make sure the emotion of the Warren stories that we want to tell, and moving into, and potentially wrapping up, we just want to make sure that it's the right thing, the right story that we're telling."
Aside from 'The Conjuring' films, Wan has helmed other horror I.P.s like 'Saw' and 'Insidious' and recently served as producer on 2022's 'M3GAN'.
While he is focused on 'Last Rites', the director said a sequel to the sci-fi horror flick wasn't out of the question.
He previously told the same outlet: "What I will say to that is, whether it's 'The Conjuring' universe, or 'Saw', or 'Malignant', or 'M3GAN' here, we like to think of a bigger world.
"For me, it's about creating the world, and knowing who the characters are, where the story could potentially go, and then building this bigger world, and then going into that and going, 'Okay, I'm telling this particular story, but I know other stuff that's going on.'"
He added: "So if we're fortunate enough to have sequels, then we have an idea of where we want to go."
