Sharon Rooney found The Celebrity Traitors to be "more intense" than she ever imagined.

The 38-year-old actress - who was a Faithful and the sixth player murdered by the Traitors - has opened up about her experience on the show, explaining that "everything is heightened".

She told the BBC: "It was more intense, but it's more everything. Everything is heightened in there. It’s everything you hope and expect it's going to be and more.

"You can't describe it. Even just driving up to the castle on the first day is unreal. Each and every single moment is even better than you expect it to be."

Sharon - who is huge fan of the TV show - relished the experience of being a Faithful.

Asked whether her fandom helped her on the show, Sharon replied: "Yes and no.

"Sometimes knowing too much can be a bad thing. I would go on my daily walks around the castle on my own to just decompress a little and have a wee look in little secret hidey holes. I enjoyed every single minute of those quiet times!

"I would speak into my mic and say ‘I will be going on a walk later, and I hope you've left something in my hidey hole’ but they never ever did. I always thought I’d find a wee secret shield or something and I'm still a bit annoyed that I didn’t.

"I would go and make myself a squash then go on a wander. Things happened on those wanders and I cannot wait to find out if I was right about them."

Sharon feels "proud" of herself for competing on The Celebrity Traitors.

The actress - who rose to fame as Rae Earl in My Mad Fat Diary, the E4 drama series - said: "I'm just really proud that I stuck it out, even at times when I didn't think I could. I didn't give up on myself and I remained Faithful the whole time."

Asked if she learned anything about herself, Sharon replied: "I've learned that there will be times that I'll be tested by other people, I'll be tested by the game, I'll be tested by myself but I can still do it. I can keep strong and I can keep trusting myself."
