Georgia Toffolo's husband James Watt reveals how autism diagnosis makes relationship 'harder'
Former Made in Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo's husband James Watt has told how his autism diagnosis means he can "miss emotional cues" and strip feeling out of moments in their relationship, while also reflecting on how his wiring has aided his business career.
Georgia Toffolo's husband James Watt says his autism diagnosis means he can "miss emotional cues" in their relationship.
The former Made in Chelsea star, 32, and her 44-year-old husband - the former BrewDog CEO - married in March 2025, just two years after James was diagnosed with autism and ADHD at the age of 40.
Reflecting on the diagnosis, James admits it can make relationships "harder", and he can sometimes "strip too much feeling out of moments that need it".
In a post on LinkedIn, he wrote: "I was diagnosed with autism when I was 40.
It wasn’t a huge surprise to anyone who knows me
My brain has always been wired differently.
I tend to process decisions through logic first and I am less driven by emotional validation or consensus than many people.
That has given me a high appetite for risk.
In business, it has been a real advantage.
To build something significant, you have to push boundaries, ignore plenty of advice, and occasionally make decisions that lots of people disagree with.
You have to take big swings without being overly dependent on everyone’s approval.
That has always come naturally to me.
But there is a flip side.
In relationships and leadership, the same wiring can make things harder.
I can miss emotional cues, I can move too quickly into problem-solving, I can strip too much feeling out of moments that need it."
James insisted he is "still working on" his inner wiring and how he can turn it into one of his "greatest strengths".
He added: "That is something I am still working on.
Whatever your wiring, learn how to wield it.
It can be one of your greatest strengths.
What is something about the way you are wired that you once saw as a weakness, but have learned to use as a strength?"
The pair have recently been open about trying for a baby.
In September, Toff - as she is affectionately known - revealed the pair had been trying to conceive for 11 months without any success.
She said in an Instagram video: "Everyone knows what I'm gonna say, I'm still not pregnant.
"Cut a long story short, we are onto month 11 of trying, which I never - I don't know why I thought I was special and different and lucky and all these things - but I never thought that by month 11, we would still be trying for a baby.
"I just had it in my head, I thought the baby would have arrived by now."
