Daisy May Cooper feared her dramatic 10-stone weight loss would stop her from landing more acting roles.
The 40-year-old star dropped from a size 24 to a size 10 between 2021 and 2024 after making changes to her diet and lifestyle, having feared she was "going to f****** die" after suffering chest and left arm pains and struggling for breath on the stairs.
But after enjoying low-carb, high-fat meals, Daisy "really panicked" that she was no longer funny because of her slim frame.
Speaking to The Independent, the This Country star added: "I thought, 'F***. Is that going to affect me casting-wise?' Will I be scratched off people’s lists when they go, 'She can’t be the funny big one?'
"It’s so mad that as women we even have to think about that."
Daisy added: "It is women and it’s still a thing. There’s also that thing where people are just shaming you for wanting to feel better and be healthy.
"When I was at my worst, I was a size 24. When I was getting up the stairs, I was so out of breath and getting pains in my chest and left arm.
“I thought, ‘This is it. I’m going to f****** die before my kids go to secondary school if I carry on like this.’”
The Last One Laughing alum no longer owns a mobile phone and gets her fiance and personal assistant, Anthony Huggins, to run her Instagram account after being bombarded with abuse over her new look.
Daisy, who has son Benji with Anthony, as well as son Jack and daughter Pip with her ex-husband, Will Weston, said: "People are so f****** horrible and mean and say such horrible things, I just can’t even go near it.
"I can do a video for it and give it to him to put online and tell him what to say, but I just can’t."
The entertainer previously told how her weight loss caused the end for her BBC sitcom This Country, which ran from February 2017 until March 2020 and followed the lives of Kerry Mucklowe and her cousin Kurtan, played by Daisy’s 37-year-old brother Charlie Cooper.
In March 2025, Daisy said her 10-stone weight loss and lip filler treatment caused problems for the second series of her other BBC comedy series, Am I Being Unreasonable?, which follows the complicated life of Nic, played by Cooper.
She reprised her role as Nic but admitted her physical transformation caused issues because the second series was supposed to pick up immediately after the first, which aired in 2022.
Speaking on ITV’s The Jonathan Ross Show, Daisy explained: "Series one is meant to be 30 seconds before series two, and in that 30 seconds I’ve lost about 10 stone and had my lips done.
“I saw the rushes, and I said to the BBC, ‘God, we’re going to have a disclaimer at the beginning saying - Daisy has had her lips done, go with it, and please don’t judge.’"
