The Capital Breakfast host was one of a number of famous names in the running to replace Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly as a presenter on the BBC entertainment series, and the process was so "gruelling" that she was overwhelmed with emotion at the end of the two-and-a-half-hour try-out session.
She told OK! magazine: "It was mad. It was an absolute honour to be in the mix, but it was a gruelling process with no messing about.
"I left the audition, got in the car and burst out crying. It was the adrenaline. I'd never concentrated so hard or wanted to impress so much. But it wasn't my time.
"I really did want to show them I could do the job."
Sian remembers very little about her audition.
She said: "But it was tough and I left going, 'I don't know if I've nailed that or if it was an absolute car crash.' And afterwards, I barely had any memory of it. It was like being in shock."
The 40-year-old star ultimately didn't get the job, but is a big fan of Emma Willis, who is one of the new hosts alongside Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe.
She said: "Emma is brilliant. I can't say a bad word about her. We don't know each other deeply, but every time I see her, she seems lovely."
And while she didn't land the hosting job, Sian is open to the idea of going on Strictly as a contestant.
She laughed: "I'd either be the person 'on a journey' or the ick, where people go, 'Oh my God, seeing her dance is horrific.'"
The presenter would also consider taking part in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!.
She said: "I know people who've done it and I know it's hard, but what appeals to me is the friendships made, the stories shared."
After celebrating her milestone 40th birthday this month, Sian - who has two-year-old daughter Ruby with fiancé Jake Beckett - admitted her age "does feel old".
She said: "I know people who have created fake ages and it feels so terrifying. You have these fears, but I know who I am. I can't pretend it's not happening."
But the This Morning presenter hasn't considered Botox and doesn't believe women always need to be chasing their youth.
She said: "You can do whatever you want, surgery or whatever, but you don't have to."
