Sian Welby wants to present Strictly Come Dancing.

The Capital Breakfast host admitted she "would love" to follow in the footsteps of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman and helm the BBC Latin and ballroom competition.

She told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: “The news broke and my phone was pinging, going, ‘Sian, have you seen this?’, ‘Sian, you should do this’. All my friends think you can just turn up and ask for the job. But yes, if they came calling I would love that job.

“If you see a real change on my Instagram, if I start wearing sequins and dancing in every reel and TikTok, you know that I’ve got an agenda.”

However, the 39-year-old broadcaster - who has 16-month-old Ruby with Jake Beckett - isn't interested in being a contestant on the show because she thinks she is too competitive.

She said: “While I’m doing this breakfast show and have a baby, it’d kill me as I’m so competitive. I would want to win.”

The BBC's Chief Content Officer, Kate Phillips, recently explained Strictly bosses are currently too busy with the current series to look for the right presenters to replace Tess and Claudia when they bow out at the end of the year.

She told The Rest Is Entertainment podcast: "In terms of the process next, the production team, BBC Studios and Sarah James [Executive Producer] and her team, they are concentrating on getting two shows out a week so we haven't got time at the moment to start doing any screen tests or chemistry testing.

"We've got time so I don't think we'll really be looking at it until the New Year because we want to make sure we deliver a great Strictly series."

The executive insisted they are not prioritising the biggest name they can find because the right chemistry between two new presenters is vital.

She said: "I think because it's two roles and Claudia and Tess have had such a strong relationship, I think it would be hard just to hire someone cold without seeing how they are with the other person.

"I think that is a really important part of it. I don't think it's necessarily about having a really big name - shows like Strictly, format is king and no one is bigger than that show."

Holly Willoughby, Alan Carr, and Angela Rippon are among the names who have so far been linked with the Strictly Come Dancing roles.
