Bob Harris gives devastating cancer update
Bob Harris has given an update on his cancer after revealing it had spread from his prostate to his upper spine.
Bob Harris' cancer "has been getting more of a hold".
The 80-year-old legendary broadcaster announced in 2007 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, which, at the time, was being managed with treatment but in April, he told fans the "really frightening news" that the disease had spread from his prostate to his upper spine.
Bob, who "immediately" underwent a course of radiotherapy to “bring things back under control”, stepped down from hosting BBC Radio 2's The Country Show and Sounds of the 70s in June and said the following month that his cancer treatment "is going well".
But now the star has revealed there have been "some changes with my cancer diagnosis".
Taking to Instagram on Monday (07.09.26), Bob shared a shot of himself lying in a hospital bed, and added in his caption: "As regular followers will know, earlier this year I was forced to step back from @bbcradio2 to concentrate on treatment and rest.
"I have been missing my programmes so much, but this space has given me a most beautiful summer here at home, enjoying a most precious commodity… TIME.
"I feel very blessed to have been able to spend lovely moments with family and friends (some of which I’ve posted here on Instagram) in the glorious summer sunshine, but during this time my cancer has been getting more of a hold.
"I still feel well but I am now at the start of an intensive course of intravenous radiotherapy which we are confident will keep things at bay. I should know the outcome quite soon.
"It is possible to live successfully with stage four prostate cancer (as demonstrated by the incredible @chrishoy1 ) and Chris will know as well as anyone, it’s a very emotional roller coaster.
"But, as you know, I’m an extremely positive person, and I continue to be determined to continue to get the best out of everyday. (sic)"
Speaking directly to his fans, The Old Grey Whistle Test host urged them to "never give in" and to "fight with all your might to keep going" during difficult times in their lives.
Bob added: "It isn’t always easy. I was in tears when I left the hospital with my son Miles on Friday.
"But me and @3bweb have just launched a brand new playlist service on my web site (see link in my bio) and I know I’ll be there onstage at my Stand By Me Concert with @robertplantofficial and all my friends at the @royalalberthall on 2nd December and beyond, so I am still working and looking way into the future."
He concluded: "Thank you for all the love and support you send me. Your kind words mean more than you will ever know. And always remember…live every day the best you can and just keep going. You can do this.
