Gino D’Acampo reveals ‘Del Boy’ habit behind £500-a-week food bill
The celebrity chef has disclosed his hefty monthly grocery spending as he continues his career away from ITV following allegations about his conduct.

The 50-year-old celebrity chef, once one of ITV’s most familiar faces through This Morning, Gino’s Italian Escape, Family Fortunes and Gordon, Gino and Fred’s Road Trip, disclosed the size of his weekly grocery bill in an interview with Closer magazine.
It comes after ITV said it had no plans to work with Gino following allegations of inappropriate and intimidating behavior from people who had worked with him on television productions.
Asked how much he spends on food each week, Gino told Closer: “Around £500 a week.”
He added: “My first choice will always be a local market. I love the atmosphere and all the stallholders shouting.
“I enjoy trying to strike a deal with the traders.
“It makes me feel like Del Boy, and I usually come home with the freshest ingredients.”
The Del Boy reference is to David Jason’s famous wheeler-dealer character in the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses, in which the market trader was known for attempting to strike a bargain.
Gino’s comments come after his long-running relationship with ITV was hit by allegations concerning his behavior behind the scenes.
An ITV News investigation in February 2025 reported dozens of people had made allegations of inappropriate and intimidating behaviour spanning more than 12 years, with experiences described by some of those who spoke to the broadcaster as “unacceptable”, “distressing” and “horrendous”.
Gino firmly denied the allegations.
Responding to the claims at the time, he said: “I have been told by ITN News that allegations have been made about me acting inappropriately, some dating back over 10 years ago.
“I have never been made aware of these matters previously and the allegations are firmly denied. I would not do anything that I thought would upset or distress anyone. This is simply not in my nature. I do not recognise the version of events being put to me.
“Not only have these allegations never been raised with me before, I have been repeatedly supported by executives at the highest level and was commissioned on prime-time programmes during the period in which it is now suggested I was acting inappropriately.
“I am a father, husband and have worked with well over 1,500 people on around 80 productions in my career, which I have been so proud of. I take such matters extremely seriously and the suggestion that I have acted in an improper way against is deeply upsetting.”
ITV News subsequently reported that complaints concerning Gino’s alleged behaviour had been made on at least six occasions between 2018 and 2023.
Gino told the broadcaster he “emphatically denies treating staff in this way”.
Further allegations emerged in November 2025, when former crew members accused Gino of “bullying” and “intimidation” on productions broadcast by ITV between 2010 and 2024.
Some described feeling “belittled” and “humiliated”, while others spoke of having a “fear of him”.
ITV News said Gino denied all the allegations.
ITV added since its initial investigation it had not commissioned any further programs featuring Gino. The chef had previously been a fixture on the broadcaster, including alongside Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix, in the popular travel series Gordon, Gino and Fred’s Road Trip.
Gino also became widely known to British audiences after winning I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2009, before going on to front Gino’s Italian Escape and take over as host of Family Fortunes.
His television work has since expanded overseas, with Gino filming the 2026 series Gino’s Canadian Escape, following international projects after his ITV career stalled.
His restaurant business also remains active in Britain.
The Gino D’Acampo restaurant group currently lists venues in Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds and London, with its restaurants promoting seasonal menus and dining offers this summer.
