Josh Hartnett's children have "never" seen any of his work.

The Verity actor - who has four kids aged between 11 and two with wife Tamsin Egerton - thinks it is "healthy" that his brood are not particularly interested in his work.

He told E! News: “My kids have never seen me in anything.

“I like it that way. I think it's healthy.”

The 48-year-old actor noted many of his films haven't been made for a younger audience but acknowledged his children might be interested "at some point", though for now, he's happy being "just dad".

He said: “I know some of their friends have seen me in movies, but [my kids] haven't shown that much interest.

“They're like, ‘It's daddy's work.’ But they're just living their lives and they're happy with their own stuff.

“They want to show me what they're doing. That's what I'm doing.”

The Pearl Harbor star has developed techniques over the years to help him leave behind a dark storyline at the end of a day's filming because he doesn't think it would be right to let his work impact on his kids.

He said: “It's easier for me than it used to be when I was younger.

"I just developed techniques for all of work that it doesn't have to stick with me for a long time. There are, of course, certain scenes that are stickier than other scenes, especially ones that are incredibly intense.

"But I figured out how to leave my work at work.

“When you have a lot of kids, you can't bring it home. You can't do that. So, I had to learn not to.”

Josh and Tamsin live in England and the Black Hawk Down actor previously admitted his kids constantly mock him for being a "foreigner".

He said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: "My kids love to give me c*** about being an American because I’m the only American in our house. I’m a foreigner in my own home.

“My middle one does a really good impersonation of me, [and] will just kind of turn to me and be like, ‘I’m Daddy, and I like pizza and I won’t mow the lawn.’ As American as it gets."

Josh's children take pleasure in explaining to him the meaning of English words and phrases.

He added: "My littlest daughter keeps telling me what it’s like to be English.

“She keeps saying to me, ‘You might not understand this Daddy, but in England we say boot instead of trunk of a car.' And I’m like, ‘I’ve lived here for longer than you. I made you.’"
