Emmerdale's Michelle Hardwick rushed to the chemist after breaking out in a sore rash while on holiday in Spain.

The 50-year-old actress - who plays Vanessa Woodfield in the ITV soap - had to grin and bear walking around Alcudia, Mallorca, with red and swollen spots on her arms and hands, caused by polymorphous light eruption (PMLE).

According to Mayo Clinic, PMLE "is a rash caused by sun exposure in people who are sensitive to sunlight", and the rash can feel "itchy" or create a "burning" sensation.

Michelle posted a shot of the sores on her Instagram Stories, with the caption: "Insta v's reality... luckily the chemist was very good in Alcudia #pmle (sic)."

The soap star's latest health ordeal comes four months after she was rushed to hospital with a painful and swollen eye injury.

Michelle had developed a scratched cornea - the outer layer at the front of the eye - the night before.

She showed off her red-and-swollen left eye in a selfie posted to her Instagram Stories with the caption: "Anyone else had a scratched cornea?

"This happened Saturday night... little trip to A+E Sunday morning to be checked over."

Michelle - who thanked the "amazing" National Health Service (NHS) workers for their care - said she took antibiotic cream to treat the injury.

The entertainer recently spent a day on the set of ITV's rival soap Coronation Street with her 44-year-old wife Kate Brooks, who served as assistant producer of Emmerdale from 2017 until 2018, and then series/episode producer from 2018 until 2024.

And in 2024, Michelle shared how proud she was of Kate - with whom she has son Edward, five, and three-year-old daughter Betty - landing the job as series producer of Coronation Street.

She wrote on Instagram: "PROUD WIFE ALERT. So the news is out that my beautiful, talented wife is swapping the Dales for the Cobbles to take on the role of Coronation Street Series Producer.

"I know everyone at Emmerdale will miss her smiley face and fabulous story brain. To all my friends at Coronation Street, you're very lucky, you've got a good one there.

"Good luck Kate! Me, Teddy and Betty are all so proud of you and love you all the world and more. (sic)"

In a statement, Kate said: "I've had a wonderful time working on Emmerdale, and I feel immensely proud to be part of a team that has achieved such great success over the past eight years.

"I’ve absolutely loved my time on the show, and I've had the privilege of working with such a hugely talented and hard-working bunch of people, who also happen to be the loveliest, too."

Kate added that she has gained more than she "ever could have imagined" both professionally and personally from her time on Emmerdale, but she was delighted to make the jump to Coronation Street.

She said: "'Corrie' has lit up my living room since I was a kid, so to be asked to produce a show I've revered for such a long time is the ultimate pinch me moment.

"I've adored the show from across the Pennines and have consistently been in awe of the talent on display, both on and off the screen.

"It truly is a special show, and I endeavour to take great care to ensure that it continues to thrive as we head into the next chapter.

"Coronation Street has, and always will be, part of my DNA, and I can't wait to get stuck in.”
