Emmerdale’s Luca Doyle breaks silence on shock return
The young actor has confirmed he is reprising his role as Elliot Windsor after two years away, with his return set against reports of a major exit storyline for Jimmy King.
Luca Doyle is returning to Emmerdale after a two-year absence.
The young actor, 19, is set to reprise his role as Elliot Windsor as the ITV soap prepares for a major storyline reportedly leading to the death of long-standing character Jimmy King.
His comeback comes amid a period of significant cast changes on the Yorkshire-based drama, with reports that Jimmy, played by Nick Miles, will be killed off after more than two decades on screen.
Luca, who has portrayed Elliot since 2016, confirmed he is back filming after Pendleton Theatre School, where he is studying musical theatre, announced his return on Instagram.
The actor has not appeared on screen since 2024 and is expected to feature in scenes airing later this summer.
His new storyline follows months of speculation surrounding the future of Jimmy, one of Emmerdale’s longest-serving characters, with reports suggesting his departure will coincide with the return of his
former wife, Sadie King, played by Patsy Kensit.
Luca said online: “After a short break, I am so excited to say that this summer I am back in the studio filming for a new storyline as Elliot Windsor in Emmerdale.
“It’s a role I’ve been lucky enough to play since 2016, and it’s such a privilege to still be part of it.
“Looking forward to seeing where this next chapter goes.”
Pendleton Theatre School shared the announcement on Instagram, writing: “Here is Musical Theatre Year 1 student Luca Hoyle who is returning to ‘Emmerdale’ @emmerdale this summer.”
Fans were quick to congratulate the actor in the comments.
One wrote: “Such a star woah.”
Another added: “Great news.”
A third commented: “Well done mate!”
Luca has spent the past two years studying at the school and is due to begin his final year in September before balancing his studies with filming commitments.
His return comes as reports continue to circulate that Jimmy’s future on the soap has been sealed after more than 22 years.
Nick has played the character since joining Emmerdale in 2004, becoming one of the programme’s most recognisable figures through storylines involving the King family, his marriage to Nicola King and the character’s gradual evolution from ruthless businessman to comic favourite.
Reports have suggested Jimmy will die in an explosive storyline linked to Sadie’s long-awaited return to the village, although ITV has not officially confirmed the details.
Luca originally took over the role of Elliot from Jackson Cummins, who portrayed the character in 2012. Before that, Oliver Brooke also played Elliot.
The return also marks the latest chapter for one of Emmerdale’s younger recurring characters as the soap continues to reshape its cast.
Recent reports have linked several departures to wider changes behind the scenes following reductions in episode output, with Jimmy among the established characters expected to leave the programme.
Emmerdale remains one of ITV’s flagship soaps and recently celebrated success at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards, despite ongoing reports of cast reductions and behind-the-scenes changes.
