Steve Pemberton and Alison Steadman team up for audio sitcom You've Got Braille
Stars from The Inbetweeners, Saturday Night Live UK, Inside No 9 and Gavin and Stacey are joining forces for new show You've Got Braille.
Steve Pemberton, Alison Steadman and Chloe Petts have been cast in new sitcom You've Got Braille.
The four-part audio series, which will be released as a four-part podcast on Friday (17.07.26), has been written by Reece Finnegan, who was registered blind at a young age, alongside Taskmaster: The People's Podcast host Jack Bernhardt.
In the show, Reece stars as Paddy, who has been described as "a disorganised, indecisive twenty-something who is registered blind and more susceptible to peer pressure than the cast of a 1980s anti-drug advert".
In a press release, the team behind the show teased that the sitcom is about "being blind... and a bit of an idiot".
They continued: "[Paddy is] your average twenty-something who’s just about muddling through life.
"Trying to get any job that pays a salary for minimal effort, working to convince the girl of his dreams to go out with him, and attempting to look cool in front of his peers.
"When you’re registered blind however, there’s always an added layer of complication to every – single – thing – you’re trying to do. "Particularly when people constantly assume that you’re some kind of angelic saint, just because you’re blind, when you’re essentially one of the Inbetweeners who left school, sort of grew up, and just happens to be blind."
Inside No. 9 star Steve will star in the programme, alongside Gavin and Stacey legend Alison, and comedian Chloe.
The cast is rounded out by The Inbetweeners star Martin Trenaman, who played Simon Cooper's dad Alan in the classic Channel 4 sitcom, as well as Saturday Night Live UK star Al Nash, and comics Sukh Kaur Ojla and Kevin 'KG' Garry.
You've Got Braille has been made by production company Hat Trick, in partnership with the charity RNIB.
Yvonne Milne, head of RNIB Connect Radio, said: "Collaborating with Hat Trick on this great new podcast is an exciting opportunity to reach new audiences, support a visually impaired writer, and ultimately use comedy as a way to improve understanding and empathy around blind and partially sighted people’s experiences."
All four episodes will be available from July 17 wherever you get your podcasts.
