Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Alexis Warr has split from her husband after nearly eight years of marriage.

The 26-year-old star took to social media to confirm she and her high school sweetheart, Jake Burton, have gone their separate ways.

Alexis wrote on her Instagram Stories: "Sorry I've been a bit MIA... sharing a personal update."

In the following post, she wrote: "After much consideration and with the greatest respect for each other, Jake and I have made the decision to separate."

Alexis admitted it wasn't an "easy decision" for the pair to make, and she and Jake remain each other's "biggest cheerleaders".

She added: "Whilst this hasn’t been an easy decision, it has been reached with a huge amount of love and we’re each other’s biggest cheerleaders.

"We won't be commenting on this further and kindly ask for privacy and understanding as we navigate this life change together.

"Thank you, as always, for your support."

Paediatric dental resident Jake shared the same post on his Instagram Stories.

In October, Alexis took to Instagram to praise Jake for passing his dental school exams.

She wrote at the time: "Proud wifey posttt. My man passed his dental school boards!! Couldn’t be more grateful for his heart, his drive, and the way he supports and loves me through it all (sic)"

In November 2020, Alexis wrote on Instagram: "I’m SO grateful for my wonderful husband! He has been and always will be God’s greatest gift to me [heart emoji] I love you with all my heart Jake! #givethanks (sic)"

Alexis and Jake married at the Provo City Center Temple - a temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which she is a member - in Provo, Utah, in November 2018.

She previously shot to fame after winning the 17th season of US dance competition So You Think You Can Dance.

Alexis dedicated her victory to her mum, who was battling brain cancer.

She became the first ballroom dance contestant to win the show upon being crowned "America's Favourite Dancer".
