Nick Mohammed is adapting his The Young Magicians books into a new animated show.

The beloved comedian, who appeared on the first series of The Celebrity Traitors and is known for his roles in the likes of Ted Lasso, will team up with Blink Industries and BBC Studios Kids and Family on the upcoming project.

In a statement to Deadline, he said: “It’s been an absolute dream come true getting to dive back into the world of The Young Magicians, even more so to develop this as an animated series with Blink Industries and BBC Studios.

“Magic was, and kind of still is, my first true love, and so to share that passion with a wider audience, given magic’s rich and bountiful history, its oddness and curiosities, has always been a hope of mine.”

The books follow the lives of talent young magicians Zack, Sophie, Jonny and Alex, who discover conspiracies and hidden dangers within The Magic Circle.

So far, Nick has written two books in the series - 2017's The Thieves Almanac and 2020's The 24-Hour Telepathy Plot.

The series will be aimed at the over-eight age group, while the writer will be on board as showrunner and executive producer.

The Young Magicians will be part of Blink Industries' first-look deal with BBC Studios Kids and Family, which has already included martial arts show Children Vs Battle SuperStars.

Blink CEO James Stevenson Bretton added: “[I] fell in love with the charming and exciting world that Nick built in his books and it’s no surprise that Nick has been able to translate that magic into such an exciting show.”

Nick also has a development, co-production and distribution deal with BBC Studios, which was inked three years ago, but it's understand that this is separate from The Young Magicians adaptation.

Nick isn't the only UK TV star seeing their literary works get adapted for the small screen.

Last week, it was revealed Dermot O'Leary's Toto The Ninja Cat series is being turned into an animated series by Studiocanal and Superprod.

The This Morning presenter's books are being transformed into a 52-episode action comedy cartoon from Danger Mouse duo Nick Ostler and Mark Huckerby.

Dermot said: “I am thrilled that Toto is about to become the star of her own television series."
