Nick Mohammed has explained why he betrayed his pal Joe Marler during The Celebrity Traitors final.
The 45-year-old actor/comedian was among the stars who made it to the final roundtable of the BBC game show along with ruby player Joe - who he'd previously formed an alliance with - but the audience was left shocked when Nick voted his ally off and paved the way for traitor Alan Carr to become the eventual winner. Now Nick has revealed his reasons behind the shock betrayal - explaining he'd been suspicious of Joe long before they filmed the final.
He told The Times newspaper: "It was definitely seeded in my mind the day before the finale. There was something Joe said to me: 'Oh, I just want it to be us two in the final. That is all I care about.'
"And at that point I think Kate [Garraway] was still in- there were still about seven of us there.
"And I remember thinking, this just smacks of [previous stars of The Traitors] Harry and Mollie. As soon as you get that thought in your head of, maybe I’m being played, it’s just all confirmation bias.
"But the big one was when Joe then said ‘Sorry’ to Cat [Burns] at the round table. And I thought: 'Oh God, he’s saying sorry to her because he’s a traitor. I’ve got it."
The banishment of Joe led to Nick - who had been a faithful since the beginning - being in the end game alongside fellow faithful David Olusoga and traitor Alan Carr, who made it through to be named the winner.
Nick added of Alan: "I’d had thoughts about Alan, but I can’t make up a reason as to why I didn’t suspect him, I just didn’t.
"I really clung on to the idea that he and Paloma [Faith] were close so he would never have got rid of her.
"All the stuff like him forgetting that he had the shield and bursting out laughing … Alan is Alan. He’s constantly hilarious and brightened up every single moment in the castle. And so maybe I just didn’t, deep down, want to think it would be him."
