Sir David Attenborough's longtime collaborator has revealed the broadcasting legend still has a strong "energy, curiosity and passion for the natural world".
Sir David Attenborough still has a strong "energy, curiosity and passion for the natural world" at 100 years old.
The legendary broadcaster, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, is in the running for a 13th Emmy Award nod with new National Geographic show Ocean With David Attenborough, and his longtime collaborator has opened up about his success over the last seven decades.
Director and executive producer Keith Scholey told The Hollywood Reporter: “What is extraordinary about David at 100 is that his energy, curiosity and passion for the natural world remain as strong as ever.
“Over the course of his remarkable career, he has built an unparalleled level of trust with audiences around the world."
Scholey, who has worked with Attenborough for over 40 years, isn't surprised that Ocean - which is available to stream on Disney+ - has resonated with viewers.
He added: "That trust, combined with the power of his storytelling and narration, helped make Ocean a film that truly connected with audiences around the world and supported real-world policy change by driving meaningful global conversations about protecting our oceans.”
After joining the BBC as a producer in 1952, he hosted docu-series Zoo Quest for the channel in 1954.
It wasn't until 1985 that Attenborough landed his first Emmy Awards nomination, which he earned for writing PBS programme The Living Planet: A Portrait of the Earth.
From there, it took another three decades for him to get his first Emmy nomination as a narrator, which came in 2016 for BBC's Life Story.
Two years later, he finally won his first Emmy for Blue Planet II, with his success continuing with the likes of Netflix's Our Planet in 2019.
Attenborough turned 100 on May 8, and he shared a heartfelt message with the BBC after an influx of "birthday greetings" from people across the UK.
He said: "I had rather thought that I would celebrate my 100th birthday quietly, but it seems that many of you have had other ideas.
"I’ve been completely overwhelmed by birthday greetings from preschool groups to care home residents and countless individuals and families of all ages."
Despite not being able to respond to each individual message, he thanked everyone for their kind words.
He added: "I simply can’t reply to each of you all separately, but I would like to thank you all most sincerely for your kind messages, and wish those of you who have planned your own local events tomorrow, have a very happy day."
