Future of The Vardys' reality show is 'up in the air'
ITV's The Vardys premiered in June, but the fly-on-the-wall reality show has been shelved for now.
The future of Jamie and Rebekah Vardy's fly-on-the-wall reality show is "up in the air".
The three-part ITV series premiered in June, and it followed the couple's move from Leicester to Italy, where he signed for US Cremonese, alongside their children Sofia, 12, Finley, nine, Olivia, six, and the model's daughter Megan, 20, and son Taylor, 15, from a previous relationship.
Jamie's 16-year-old daughter Ella, whom he has with his ex-partner Emma Daggett, did not appear on the programme.
The Vardys also saw Rebekah, 44, reflect on suing fellow WAG Coleen Rooney, 40, for libel in 2020 after Coleen alleged in a Twitter, now called X, post that Rebekah's Instagram account had leaked posts from her private Instagram account to The Sun newspaper; Rebekah lost the case when it ended in 2022.
A source told The Sun that the family has "no plans at this exact time for The Vardys to return for a second series – but that’s only because a lot is up in the air for the family".
They added: "For starters, the family don’t know what their plans are as yet – as it’s not been decided where Jamie is going to be playing.
"Certainly, a second series couldn’t have been about a continued Italian adventure – which was at the heart of series one – because Jamie left Cremonese at the end of last season.
"Even so, nobody’s ruling out a second series – but a lot of it depends on where the family will be and what they will be doing.
“At the moment, that is still up in the air."
However, an ITV source said the broadcaster and The Vardys have "been in discussions about future episodes".
They noted that the series "was always commissioned as a three part episodes to follow a particular chapter in the family’s lives", and "continues to be a success on ITVX, regularly featuring in the top five".
Before The Vardys premiered on June 2, Rebekah insisted that there was nothing staged about her and 39-year-old Jamie's show and that she "wouldn’t have it any other way".
Rebekah added: "The point was to be open and authentic about what this period of change looks like for our family.
"Moving on from such a big chapter in our lives affects everyone emotionally and documenting that honestly felt important."
As for what she and her nearest and dearest have learned from moving to Italy and the show, Rebekah said: ‘When you completely step out of your comfort zone and rebuild your life somewhere new, it forces you to slow down and really assess what matters most."
In April, ITV announced The Vardys, and teased: "With no-holds-barred, intimate access to the Vardys, this series follows all the drama and chaos of their new family adventure - from frantic house-hunts and tearful school searches, to unexpected disasters and dramatic setbacks, all while Jamie battles to prove his doubters wrong on the pitch at the age of 38, with Italian Serie A underdogs US Cremonese.
