Love Island's Nathan Massey admitted he "would be dead" without his son.

The hunk "ran away" from his wife, Cara De La Hoyde, as he initially struggled to deal with her pregnancy bombshell, which she dropped on him upon his return from the Netherlands, nine months after they won the ITV2 matchmaking show in 2016.

On the latest episode of Love Island couple Molly Smith, 32, and 26-year-old Tom Clare's Newlyweds podcast, Cara, 35, said finding out she was expecting Freddie, seven, was "the best thing that ever happened" to her.

But she added: "Not all the time because Nathan got scared and ran away. But he did come back."

Tom chimed in: "You broke up for a little bit?"

Ex-circus performer Cara clarified: "Nathan s*** his pants. He had been in Amsterdam for three days, so he wasn't feeling the best, as you can imagine."

Nathan, 33, explained: "I got home, and then you throw that s*** on me. I remember I ran into the bathroom and was like, 'Ahh no!'

But the carpenter added: "But do you know what? Fred was the best thing that ever happened to me because I'd be dead if I didn't have him. He made me into a man.

"And when he gets a little bit older and appreciates it, I will tell him that."

Nathan and Cara - who scooped up the £50,000 jackpot after winning Love Island - welcomed Freddie into the world in December 2017, and their second child, daughter Delilah, in July 2020.

The pair were caught on camera numerous times getting hot and heavy beneath the sheets in the dating show's Mallorca, Spain-based villa, and they do not regret having sex on national television.

In January 2017, Cara exclusively to BANG Showbiz at the National Television Awards: "We didn't get involved in drama in the house, and we don't get involved in drama outside. We keep very drama-free, only with each other when she throws water over me."

She added: "I watch Game of Thrones, and Game of Thrones is all minnies and willies.

"We didn't get involved in drama in the house, and we don't get involved in drama outside. We keep very drama-free, only with each other when she throws water over me.

"And that is the best show on TV, so if they're doing it. We've been nominated for a National Television Award, so it can't be that bad."
