Josie Gibson is being eyed by BBC bosses to compete on Strictly Come Dancing.

The This Morning host is said to be in advanced talks with the corporation about taking part in the upcoming series that will get underway in September.

Josie, 41, is regarded by BBC executives to be an ideal addition to the Saturday night favourite - which is currently searching for replacements for ex-presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman and has also swung the axe on several professional dancers.

The former Big Brother star almost signed up for Strictly in 2023 but opted to take part in the ITV reality series I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! instead that year.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Josie has been on the BBC’s radar for a while and they’ve not given up their pursuit.

“They’re hoping this year is the year, and talks are progressing well.

“Bosses are convinced her down-to-earth charm will be the boost this year’s new-look show needs.

“Warm and engaging, she’s just what they require right now and will be a sure-fire hit with fans.”

Meanwhile, Josie recalled earlier this year that she “nearly had a panic attack” when she was asked to present This Morning for the first time.

The star - who had previously hosted the ITV daytime programme’s competition segments - hosted the show for the first time in 2021 when she filled in for an ill Holly Willoughby at short notice and "couldn't breathe or talk" when she was asked to sit on the famous sofa.

She told Best magazine: "I just couldn't believe it... It's still a 'pinch me' moment.

"I was scared to begin with, the first time I went into the studio I nearly had a panic attack. I couldn't breathe or talk.

"But I'm just so thankful to This Morning; they really took a chance on me and then stuck with me!"

Gibson has remained as a regular relief presenter on This Morning since and loves the programme's varied nature.

She said: "My goodness, that show is like a box of chocolates, as Forrest Gump would say – you never know what you're going to get.

"I love it when it gets really wacky, and it's amazing to have a job where I can be myself and basically get paid to have a laugh!"
