Shivi Ramoutar knew her husband was “the man" after he mopped up her sick moments after proposing.

The 44-year-old TV chef puked for hours after she ate seafood and shellfish at a Devon-based restaurant with her partner - whose name has never been publicly revealed - before he popped the question.

Shivi - who got married in September 2014 - recalled in the new issue of My Weekly magazine: "I spent the night throwing up when my husband proposed to me.

"We'd gone to an amazing restaurant in Devon, and I had this wonderful meal - mussels, clams, everything. I spent the whole night vomiting because of intolerance.

"He had to scrub and clean the floor in his Marigolds. That was the moment I thought, 'Yes, I've already said yes to you anyway today, but I now know it. He's the man.'"

The This Morning star - who has two children with her husband - was "born allergic to seafood and shellfish", but Shivi’s mum had no idea about her allergy.

Shivi said: "My mum thought I was being fussy, so she used to hide prawns or shellfish in my food, and I'd have a reaction.

"So then she realised, 'Actually, no, she's probably allergic.' Over time, it's become an intolerance."

Elsewhere in her interview, the food expert remembered when she got "slapped in the face by a lemur" when she first met Jimmy Doherty, 50, for their ITV show, Farmhouse Breakfast.

Shivi revealed: "We were doing the photoshoot for the promotion of the show, and I'd just finished filming a VT with lemurs when I got slapped in the face by one.

"They're cute. They're sweet. But they just lulled me into a false sense of security and then gave me a slap!"

The cookbook author hopes people will feel inspired to "cook a dish or go and explore" places after watching Farmhouse Breakfast - which is shot at Jimmy's Suffolk farm and centred around food and drink, crafts, animals and country life.

And the Sunday morning programme does not feel like work for Shivi or Jimmy.

She said: "Jimmy Doherty is lovely. We have so much fun together on the show. Even when the camera stops rolling, we're always having a giggle.

"I've learned so much about animals and the farming life through him. And I think he learns from me about food as well. So I think it's a really lovely relationship."
