Katy Brand refused to tell jokes on camera that she claimed were given to her by a Strictly Come Dancing producer when on the 2012 Christmas special.

The 47-year-old comedienne wanted control of her "brand messaging" in her introductory video tape (VT) interview before she took to the dance floor with Anton Du Beke, 59, to perform their Viennese Waltz to It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

Katy revealed on Instagram: "When I did Strictly Come Dancing in 2012, I was asked by the producer filming the VT insert interview package to say, 'I live to make people laugh,' and also, 'When I heard I was doing a Viennese Waltz, I was confused because I thought it was a biscuit.'

"And friends, I flatly refused to say either of those things on camera. So I want you to be inspired by this to know that you too can control your brand messaging as you see fit. (sic)"

The star claimed the "same producer" fed lines to 93-year-old actress Dame Sheila Hancock who also took part in the 2012 Christmas special of the BBC's Latin and Ballroom dance show.

Katy captioned her post: "I would also like to share that Dame Sheila Hancock told me the same producer wanted her to say, ‘This is the role I have been dreaming of all my life’, and Dame Sheila just looked at her and said, ‘Darling, I’ve played Lady Macbeth.’

"I hope she doesn’t mind me telling you that. I adored her. (sic)"

Katy's fans reacted to the claims in the post's comments section, as one penned: "Omg. Also; go you!! (sic)"

A second supporter typed: "This is so so so good to know. As well as making me actually cackle as a post, I’ll bear this in mind as I was JUST thinking of applying to Traitors! (sic)"

And a third follower wrote: "Brand messaging... see what you did there. Quite right too by the way (sic)."

Elsewhere, Strictly Come Dancing bosses are set to hold presenter auditions with nine celebrities this week following the departure of Tess Daly, 57, and Claudia Winkleman, 54, at the end of the 2025 series in December.

The Sun reports that the nine stars are former BBC Radio 2 star Zoe Ball, 55, ex-Big Brother host Emma Willis, 50, This Morning stars Alison Hammond, 51, and Rylan Clark, 37, The Apprentice: Unfinished Business' Angela Scanlon, 42, The One Show presenter Alex Jones, 49, comedian Tom Allen, 42, The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh, 65, and RuPaul's Drag Race UK alum La Voix, 46.

There have also been brutal culls to the cast as part of a big shake-up of Strictly Come Dancing with professional dancers Karen Hauer and Nancy Xu, both 34, Gorka Marquez, 35, Nadiya Bychkova and Luba Mushtuk, both 36, and 30-year-old Michelle Tsiakkas all being axed.
