Pregnant Aubrey Plaza can't wait to become a first-time mom because parenting has always seemed "so interesting".

The 41-year-old actress is expecting her first child with her partner Chris Abbott and she's now opened up about impending motherhood admitting she's looking forward to seeing what it's "all about".

During an appearance on the SmartLess podcast, she said: "There’s a baby inside of me right now. Yes it’s true… I know it’s shocking isn’t it.

"Yes [this is baby number one] … "

The Parks and Recreation star went on to reveal she went to the doctor for an ultrasound scan before recording the podcast and she had to take her dog to the vet on the same day for a similar proceedure.

She explained: "Today was a big day I went to the doctors today, and my dog also went to the doctor. My dog is getting a scan right now and I I got a scan earlier. She’s also getting a scan on her stomach … I think she’s ok. She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach and I got an ultrasound on my stomach and there is a baby in there … It already has a cloak and a little hat … I think it's going to come out ... "

When asked if she's excited about becoming a mother, Aubrey replied: "I am [excited] I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about you know. It seems so interesting that whole thing … "

Aubrey also revealed she's now living in New York and plans to raise her baby on America's East Coast.

She said: "I'm back in New York ... Yeah ... [it's not] totally thought through but East Coast for sure. My family is in Philidephia and Delaware mainly ... One of reasons I cam back here was for that so I could get on a train and go home."

The baby news has given Aubrey a boost following a difficult time for the actress after her estranged husband Jeff Baena took his own life in January 2025 aged 47.

Aubrey - who separated from Baena in September 2024 - previously admitted every day has been a "struggle" since her ex's death.

When asked how she is doing by Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast, Aubrey said: "Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you.

"Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m okay, but it’s like a daily struggle, obviously."

She compared her grief to 2025 sci-fi movie The Gorge, insisting it felt like a "giant ocean of awfulness".

She continued: “This is a really dumb analogy and it was kind of a joke at a certain point, but I actually mean it.

"Did you see that movie The Gorge? It’s like [an] alien movie or something with Miles Teller. In the movie, there’s like a cliff on one side and there’s a cliff on the other side, then there’s gorge in between and it’s filled with all these like monster people that are trying to get them.

"I swear when I watched it, I was like that feels like what my grief is like … or what grief could be like.

"At all times there’s like a giant ocean of awfulness, that’s like right there and I can see it. Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it’s always there."
