Alan Carr is to become a baron and have his own tartan after splashing out on a Scottish castle.

The Celebrity Traitors winner has confirmed he has purchased Ayton Castle, after he was said to be inspired by Ardross Castle, where he filmed the BBC One TV show.

Alan is waiting for the keys for his 16-bedroom plush pad, which has reportedly cost him around £3.25 million, and he now has the right to a feudal barony.

He told the Staying Relevant podcast: "I have bought it. Someone said someone else has bought it but, no, I have.

"I haven’t been this excited about a project for ages.

"I’ve got the survey now and I’m waiting for the keys to come.

"I’ll be a baron and I’ll be getting my own tartan."

Alan - who split from husband Paul Drayton in 2022, after 13 years together and four years married - even joked he "might get a nice man" in Scotland.

Last month, it was reported by The Sun newspaper that Alan had bought the castle, which comes with 160 acres of gardens and parkland, amid plans to turn it into a luxury hotel and spa.

His efforts to transform the castle will feature in new Disney+ show Castle Man.

Alan previously said: “Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me - I want my very own castle. Since I was a boy in Northampton, I’ve always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home.

“As I turn 50, I feel it’s time. All I want is a turret to call my own get me over that drawbridge.”

A synopsis for the show reads: “With Alan’s 50th birthday fast approaching, he finds himself at a moment of reckoning, taking stock of where he is and where he wants to be.

“He has long dreamed of owning a grand château, but after a transformative and iconic stay at The Traitors‘ castle, that fantasy will now become a reality — or will it?

"He doesn’t just want to visit a castle, he wants to build a life in one, a leap of faith driven entirely by Alan himself.”
