This City Is Ours series two filming targeted by Spanish criminals
A raid on a producer’s Marbella apartment disrupted filming of This City Is Ours, adding real-life crime drama to the BBC show’s second season shoot.
Filming for This City Is Ours was plunged into chaos after being struck by Spanish criminals.
Raiders ransacked a production crew member's apartment near the tourist hotspot Marbella - the setting for the gritty BBC crime drama - and stole his personal belongings as series two of the critically acclaimed programme was shot in October.
A source told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: "It was certainly the talk of the town. It was a shock that, as shooting for a major crime show was happening, one of those working on it also became a victim of crime.
"The irony was not lost on anyone."
This City Is Ours follows gangster Ronnie Phelan (Sean Bean) and his family amid a drug trafficking backdrop.
And despite 66-year-old leading man Sean's alter ego being killed off in series one, bosses are hoping the actor can appear in series two as a part of a flashback episode.
In May, a source told The Mirror: "The shape of season two is up in the air, but one thought is that Sean Bean will return as Ronnie in an episode about his backstory.”
The next season will see the return of Julie Graham, 60, who portrays matriarch Elaine Phelan, James Nelson-Joyce, 36, who plays leading gang member Michael Kavanagh, and Hannah Onslow, 27, as Michael's partner Diana Williams.
Season one of This City is Ours - which aired on BBC One in March - pulled in six million viewers, and the eight-episode series quickly became the BBC's most-watched drama of the year.
And the drama's creator and lead writer, Stephen Butchard, is thrilled with how well series one performed, and he cannot wait for viewers to see series two.
He said to The Mirror: "We have all been blown away by the incredibly positive response to This City is Ours.
"I can’t thank the audience enough for their time and emotional investment.
"My heartfelt thanks also to Lindsay Salt and her wonderful team at BBC Drama for their unflinching support and continued belief in the show, our story and our characters – and not least for this opportunity to do it all over again! See you soon!"
