Former EastEnders actress Nina Wadia wants new soap role
Former EastEnders star Nina Wadia - who played Zainab Masood in the show for six years - wants to star in rival ITV soap Coronation Street.
Nina Wadia wants to return to soap with a role in Coronation Street.
The 56-year-old actress played Zainab Masood in EastEnders for six years before leaving the BBC show in 2013.
Nina would like to get back to soap acting but would prefer a swap to ITV's Corrie rather than reprising her role as Zainab in Albert Square.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, she said: "I'd love to tread the cobbles. That would be a lot of fun.
"I know a couple of the Corrie cast, but I wouldn't put them under pressure to help me get a role!
"Who knows what will happen?"
Nina - who shot to fame on BBC comedy sketch show Goodness Gracious Me - admits acting in a soap is hard work but she enjoys the busy filming schedule and the pressure that comes with it.
She said: "Being on a soap is very busy. But I love hard work. That's what I thrive on.
"When you're on a soap, you get the chance to develop your character during a workshop at the start.
"Then because you're living the character, you find out more about them."
Previously, Nina claimed she left EastEnders because the storylines has gotten "so ridiculous and so difficult" and she even asked the writers to kill off Zainab.
Appearing on Channel 5 show Vanessa, Nina said: "When the storylines get so ridiculous and so difficult, you kind of think ‘I’m out.'
“The reason I left was because the storylines were getting ridiculous.
“That was one of the reasons I left. There were several, but that was one of the main reasons.
“My husband Masood was going to have yet another affair. And I was like, ‘How can I react any differently [to the] way I reacted before when he told me he was having an affair?”
