Emmerdale's Nicola Wheeler has eaten guinea pig
Emmerdale actress Nicola Wheeler tried guinea pig in Peru, and whilst it was "tasty" - she "won't be having it again".
Emmerdale actress Nicola Wheeler enjoyed eating a guinea pig in Peru.
The 54-year-old star said the popular pet - which is part of the South American country's "national diet" - tastes like "duck and chicken", but she "won't be having it again".
Asked what the strangest thing she has consumed is, Nicola revealed in the new issue of Closer magazine: "Guinea pig! I tried it when I was in Peru because it's part of their national diet.
"At the time, I was pescatarian, but I thought, 'Well, I'll never eat guinea pig again, so I might as well give it a go.'
"It was actually really tasty, kind of like a cross between duck and chicken. It had that slightly gamey, darker meat like duck, but a texture a bit like chicken.
"I won't be having it again, but I'm glad I tried it."
Nicola is up for trying "anything once" - a far cry from her childhood eating habits.
The actress said: "I was so fussy as a child - I hated everything - but now I'll try anything once.
"I've definitely grown out of my fussy stage."
Elsewhere in the interview, the actress - who has played Nicola King in the ITV soap since 2001 - shared that she fasts during the week.
Describing her daily diet, Nicola - who can spend up to £230 or so a week on a food and drink shop - added: "I skip breakfast, but I don't at weekends. Lunch is usually quite light - cheese and crackers or homemade soup.
"If I do have a big lunch, I'll make sure dinner is something lighter. Evenings are more of a sit-down meal. I'll make something like a vegetarian curry - my husband's veggie, so I do a lot of vegetarian cooking. We eat loads of curry in our house!
"For snacks, it's usually houmous with veg and fruit."
