Hollyoaks star Charlie Wernham swallowed a rubber-filled pea puree after he accidentally mixed the crushed up trim off the blender into the food.

The 31-year-old actor hurt his throat when he tucked into the smooth cream, but he did not realise his cooking disaster until he was "about three-quarters of the way through" it.

Charlie - who was practicing making the pea puree ready for the Hollyoaks does Come Dine With Me special - said: "One of my cooking disasters happened when I attempted to rehearse making a pea puree for my main, my blender was making a funny noise and when I tried the pea puree it was really grainy and chewy with a rubbery texture - it tasted horrible and hurt to swallow!

"I realised I had accidentally knocked the rubber trim off the blender and blended it into the puree … which I ate.

"I didn’t realise until about three-quarters of the way through. So I ate rubber.

"I’ve had many cooking disasters, but the casualties are quite minimal, so I’ve got away with it."

The reality TV show - which sees contestants take turns during the week to cook and entertain the rest, to find out who is the perfect dinner party host - is teaming up with the soap to mark 30 years of Hollyoaks.

The stellar line-up includes Charlie (Robbie Roscoe), Isabelle Smith (Frankie Osborne), Anya Lawrence (Vicky Grant), James Redmond (Rory 'Finn' Finnigan) and Nicole Barber-Lane (Myra McQueen), who will all be battling it out for a £1000 cash prize for charity.

James - who took part in Come Dine With Me in 2010 and finished in last place - admitted he has zero cooking strengths, but has had "loads" of cooking disasters.

The 53-year-old star said: "I once tried to oven cook a lasagne in Tupperware. Melted plastic and poisonous fumes don’t go well with pasta."

Nicole, 55, has made the same error, recalling: "I’ve put dishes in the oven which have a plastic lid and it's melted into the food after four hours of painstaking prep."

However, she said she does make a "good rice and a great stew Anglo-Indian style".

Elsewhere, Anya, 21, said she once "managed to set fire to rice", which left her "mortified". But, she is great at cooking "Italian food".

And Isabelle can make a cracking "beans on toast", but teased viewers that they will see "many" cooking disasters in her episode.

The Hollyoaks Does Come Dine With Me special kicks off on Monday (27.10.25) with Nicole hoping her tropical-themed evening will transport her

guests to paradise.

The following day, Isabelle will be throwing a Mad Hatter's Tea Party - despite having limited culinary skills.

On Wednesday (29.10.25), James is putting on a Scouse-themed night in honour of the Hollyoaks set and his own family history.

Then on Thursday (30.10.25), Anya is taking on a Greek theme as it’s her favourite place to holiday as well as her favourite cuisine.

And on Friday (31.10.25), it is the turn of Charlie, hosting an East End-themed night.

Each episode of Hollyoaks does Come Dine With Me starts at 7.30pm on E4.
