Rob Brydon is set to host The Floor on ITV.

The Gavin and Stacey star - who recently fronted Destination X for the BBC, having already helmed Would I Lie To You? for the broadcaster - has been snapped up by the rival channel for the upcoming British version of the hit TV quiz show.

As quoted by The Sun newspaper's TVBiz column he said: "The Floor is a quiz show like no other – big, bold and bursting with excitement.

"I’m thrilled to be stepping onto it and guiding the contestants through the competition. Let’s light up the floor!”

The programme sees 81 quizzers competing on an LED floor which is split in 81 squares, with each one representing a field of knowledge, like "famous athletes", "iconic buildings" and "mammals".

The aim of the game is to take over the whole floor to win the cash prize, and each duel between the contestants ups the stakes,

A random contestant is chosen to challenge an adjoining opponent in a duel, with some questions involving photos and audio, and others being open questions, multiple choice and more.

The winner takes over the opponent's square with the loser kicked out of the game, and after 10 episodes the last person standing takes home the money.

An insider added to the newspaper: "This will take Rob to a whole new level as it’s a particularly high-profile role for him and being quizmaster isn’t something he’s known for.

“Yes Destination X was a big series and Would I Lie to You? is a panel show, but there’s nothing quite like The Floor on his CV.

“It is a very big shiny floor show which ITV are investing a great deal in so they must have alot of faith in Rob rising to the occasion.”

Maarten Meijs, CEO at Talpa Studios, previously hailed the UK's "unmatched legacy when it comes to quiz shows".

He said: "Having ITV adapt The Floor is a true testament to the format’s strength, originality, and continued international success.

"We’re extremely proud to enter this prolific quiz market as our 25th territory, and confident that The Floor will resonate with British audiences – especially with the local flair ITV and South Shore are bringing to the show.”
