American President Donald Trump seemingly celebrated the $142 billion arms deal between the US and Saudi Arabia by dining on a McDonald's meal.

The 78-year-old US leader is on a tour of the Middle East and his first stop was to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh to sign off the historic deal and speak at an investment forum.

Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signed a number of agreements at a VIP-laden lunch ahead of his address and waiting for President Trump was a custom mobile McDonald's food truck.

In Riyadh, McDonald's serves its trademark items such as the Big Mac, Double Cheeseburger and Quarter Pounder as well as a number of menu options unique to the region, such as the Grand Chicken Deluxe and the Chicken McArabia and the McArabia Kofta which are both served in pitta bread.

Trump's love of McDonald's is well known and during his last election campaign he served customers at a drive-thru restaurant.

According to Trump's former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski - who worked with the business when he was first elected to the White House in 2016 - his favourite order was two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches and a chocolate milkshake. He detailed the president's appetite for McDonald's in his book 'Let Trump Be Trump'.

In 2002, Trump even appeared in a commercial for McDonald's advertising the chain's dollar menu.

His biographer Michael Wolff claimed that Trump frequently ate McDonald's because he “had a long-time fear of being poisoned" and he could guarantee their food "was safely premade".

When quizzed about his love of McDonald's in 2016, the president told CNN: "I’m a very clean person. I like cleanliness, and I think you’re better off going there than maybe someplace that you have no idea where the food’s coming from. It’s a certain standard. One bad hamburger, you can destroy McDonald’s."

The arms agreement between the US and Saudi Arabia includes providing Saudi Arabia with "state-of-the-art warfighting equipment and services from over a dozen US defence firms".

Trump's tour of the Middle East continues in Qatar and the UAE later this week.

During his speech at the investment forum in Riyadh, Trump heaped praise on Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for his achievements in Saudi Arabia saying: "I like him too much. That's why we give so much."
