Gavin and Stacey's Ruth Jones channels 'inner Nessa' when she is nervous
'Gavin and Stacey' co-creator and star Ruth Jones has told how she channels her "inner Nessa" to overcome tricky times when she feels "nervous".
Ruth Jones wishes she could be more "direct" in life, like her 'Gavin and Stacey' character.
The 58-year-old actress loves how her alter-ego Nessa Jenkins "doesn't care what anyone thinks", and she also tries to be more no-nonsense at times.
She told the BBC: "What I love about Nessa is she doesn't care what anyone thinks.
"I wish I could be a bit more like that in real life. I just love her directness."
Ruth - who co-created the sitcom alongside James Corden - channels her "inner Nessa" if she is ever feeling nervous.
She added: "If I'm feeling nervous about something, I often channel my inner Nessa to be able to say 'Oh, love, back off.' "
Ruth will portray Nessa for the last-ever time on Christmas Day (25.12.24) when 'Gavin and Stacey' comes to an end with a finale episode.
'Stella' star Ruth previously admitted it was an "emotional" time on set filming the final scenes.
She explained: "It was very emotional, and very lovely. Like we were all saying goodbye to it together."
Alison Steadman, who plays Pam Shipman - the mother of titular character Gavin Shipman (Mathew Horne) - also admitted there were tears on set, and she cannot envisage any more episodes being made in the future.
She said on 'Loose Women': "It was very emotional. When we did the final day, the wrap.
"I think it will be the final one. It's called 'The Finale'. It's been such a great experience, it really has."
'Gavin and Stacey: The Finale' airs on Christmas Day (25.12.24) on BBC One.
