'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' director Karan Johar decided against asking Shah Rukh Khan to make a cameo in the movie.

The moviemaker has a long-running friendship and professional partnership with the actor and has managed to convince him to take on guest appearances in films such as 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' and 'Brahmastra' but Karan feared he couldn't ask his pal for yet another favour.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, he was asked if he was tempted to ask Khan to make an appearance and the director replied: "Very".

He went on to explain: "I said: ‘With what kind of guts do I ask Shah Rukh to not only do a cameo, but to go to Kashmir, and get into hair and costume' ... Shah Rukh never says no to me. I have to pick and choose what I ask for. I remember when, as a team, we went to him to ask him to play that massive, impactful cameo in 'Brahmastra'. At the end of the day, he looked at us and said: ‘It’s Karan, I can never say no’. I know that I can’t take that empowered feeling for granted and keep going back."

Khan spent almost two weeks working on 'Brahmastra' and the director confirmed the actor "didn’t charge a penny" so he decided to let his idea for 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' go because he would have been "too embarassed to ask him again".

Johar added of his pal: "He’s king-hearted as well".

Khan's kind-hearted nature was recently revealed by his 'Jawan' co-star Eijaz Khan who was impressed by the lead actor's gracious attitude towards his co-workers. Speaking to Subhojit Ghosh, Eijaz explained he was amazed to be embraced by SRK when filming wrapped. He said: "The greatest thing about Shah Rukh is that the amount of love we give him, he gives more in return to each and every individual. "When he comes on set, of course everyone’s in a hurry to start. But when he finishes the shoot, he goes to his van and changes, comes back, and then meets each and every person individually, hugs them, and then leaves. And you feel so special. It’s like your day is made, your month is made, your life is made. ‘Shah Rukh Khan hugged me’. If he knows something about you, he will ask.”
