Shahid Kapoor was 'embarrassed' by 14-year age gap with wife
Shahid Kapoor was a "little embarrassed" when he met his wife because of their 14-year age gap but quickly realised Mira Rajput wasn't fazed by his fame.
Shahid Kapoor was a "little embarrassed" when he met his wife because of their 14-year age gap.
The 'Kabir Singh' actor was a movie superstar and Mira Rajput a 20-year-old college student when they were introduced for an arranged marriage, and while the 42-year-old star was ready to "connect" with any potential partner, he was initially uncomfortable about being so much older.
He told Mid-day: “First thing I noticed about Mira when me and her met, she was all of 20 years old, I was 34 and I was a little embarrassed. I was like ‘Okay, she is really young’. I was happy to meet anybody and connect. And when I met her, she was not at all affected by the fact that I was an actor."
But he was relieved to see Mira - who he married in 2015 and has two children with - was unfazed by his stardom.
He added: "That was the first thing that I was like, ‘Wow, she is all of 20 years old and she is just so normal and she really doesn’t care’. Because you can make out the difference when you meet people who are acting like they don’t care but they are very affected.”
The 'Jab We Met' actor has also spoken about the "schizophrenic reality" he was living in when he first met Mira because of his "glamorous" job but quiet home life.
He told Humans of Bombay: “I was open to meeting someone I could settle down with. My biggest concern was I have a very schizophrenic reality – one side is all spiritual, meditation, no alcohol, and the other side is all about my acting and glamour. So, I thought the girl would understand only either of the two. That’s when I met Mira."
Shahid also praised his wife's "strong individual personality" and admitted he appreciates the fact she doesn't care about his stardom.
He said: “It wasn’t a major factor for her and I think that’s what I crave. I crave normalcy. Because I am always surrounded by people who first see me as a star, you want to have a normal personal life."
