'She doesn't have reproductive organs': Margot Robbie plays sexless Barbie in live-action film
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were told to keep Barbie and Ken as toys, not real humans.
Margot Robbie insists her Barbie in the live-action movie cannot feel "sexual desire" because she's a toy doll with "no reproductive organs".
The 32-year-old Hollywood star plays the real-life version of the Mattel doll in Greta Gerwig's upcoming flick, but she wanted to portray her as if she were a sexless doll.
Margot told Vogue magazine: “I’m like, Okay, she’s a doll.
“She’s a plastic doll. She doesn’t have organs. If she doesn’t have organs, she doesn’t have reproductive organs. If she doesn’t have reproductive organs, would she even feel sexual desire? No, I don’t think she could.”
The blonde bombshell insists that Barbie isn't asking for it, but she is "sexualised".
She added: “She is sexualised. But she should never be sexy. People can project sex onto her … Yes, she can wear a short skirt, but because it’s fun and pink. Not because she wanted you to see her butt.”
Margot plays stereotypical Barbie, while Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon and Dua Lipa play other versions of her.
Ryan Gosling is the standard Ken, Barbie's love interest, while Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa, and John Cena play alternate versions.
