Kate Hudson 'on board' for How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days sequel
Kate Hudson is reportedly working behind the scenes on a follow-up to her classic 2003 rom-com.
Kate Hudson is working on a How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days sequel.
The 47-year-old actress, who starred alongside Matthew McConaughey, 56, in the original 2003 rom-com, is reportedly on board for a planned revival from Paramount, which is in its early stages.
According to Variety, Hudson is attached to produce the project.
It's still early in the sequel's development, and a source explained that the cast and a number of key creative roles are yet to be selected.
However, it's said the filmmakers and studio are keen to have Hudson and McConaughey reprise their roles as magazine columnist Andie Anderson and advertising executive Benjamin Barry.
With a screenwriter yet to be settled on though, casting will likely change depending on who gets chosen, and the story they decide to tell.
In the original romance movie, Andie is researching an article about modern dating.
She seduces Benjamin before turning herself into a girlfriend from hell.
Meanwhile, Benjamin has made a wager with his boss about being able to make any woman fall for him, with a massive campaign on the line.
How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days was directed by Donald Petrie, with the cast rounded out by Kathryn Hahn, Adam Goldberg, Thomas Lennon, Michael Michele and Shalom Marlow.
McConaughey recently hailed the movie as his "favourite" of his rom-coms.
He told the Happy Sad Confused podcast earlier this month: "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is the gift that keeps on giving. I think it’s probably my favourite romcom I’ve done. And it still pays the best mailbox money of any film I’ve ever done. By far. By lengths.”
Back in 2024, Hudson admitted she was open to working on a sequel.
She said on Watch What Happens Live: “All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I would be into the script. I think we’re both totally open but it’s just never happened.”
And Matthew would be keen to work with Kate, who he also starred with in Fool's Gold, again.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, he said: "She's fun to work with! She's fun, she's rock and roll.
"(For a romcom to work), the male and the female, or whoever the two leads are, they have to have some kind of chemistry where you go, 'I buy that! I wanna be there!'
"And we pulled that off a few times. And that's why we like working with each other."
However, McConaughey did previously admit he actually moved to Texas because he was tired of being the "rom-com dude" in Hollywood, even though "that lane paid well and it was working".
He made a conscious decision to stop making rom-coms and he's now happy to wait for the right on-screen roles to come his way.
McConaughey said on the Good Trouble podcast: "So, since I couldn’t do what I wanted to do, I stopped doing what I was doing. And I moved down to the ranch in Texas, and I went down there and I made a pact with my wife and said, ‘I’m not going back to work unless I get offered roles I want to do.'"
