Camila Mendes hails 'attention to detail' on Masters of the Universe sets
Masters of the Universe star Camila Mendes was wowed by the "attention to detail" that the crew put into constructing sets on the new movie based on the Mattel franchise.
Camila Mendes was impressed by the "attention to detail" that went into making the sets on Masters of the Universe.
The 31-year-old star plays Teela in the new movie based on the Mattel franchise and felt that the impressive sets made acting in the sword and sorcery flick a lot easier.
Speaking to SFX magazine, Mendes said: "I was amazed at the attention to detail and how much of it was practical. They built these beautiful sets.
"With these films, you always worry that you're going to have to do so much with your imagination because it's usually a green screen – but they really created a world and added so much texture to it. That made my job a lot easier."
The Riverdale actress admits it was hard to choose what her favourite set on the new film - which also stars Nicholas Galitzine, Jared Leto and Alison Brie – was.
She said: "To me, the most epic set was the outdoor set where all the heroes of Grayskull are lined up. It's a set with all these big structures and it leads to Castle Grayskull. It's amazing.
"Actually, let me take that back... I think my favourite set was the enchanted forest."
Mendes added: "I felt like I was in a real forest on that set. I was like, 'Wow, I would go hiking so much more if this is what I was hiking through.'
"The enchanted forest was beautiful. The colours were so vibrant. I felt so at peace on that set. I felt like I was meditating in that forest."
Camila's alter ego Teela is the love interest of Adam Glenn/He-Man (Galitzine) and the actress explained that her character possesses a "tough exterior".
The Palm Springs star said: "I love Teela. She's a leader. She's strong. She's great.
"Her story starts with Adam as a kid, which informs her journey throughout the movie. She's had to be very independent from a very young age, which has created a tough exterior that has a lot to do with the themes of masculinity in the film and she's affected by that."
Camila was particularly pleased with how Teela is introduced into the film.
She said: "I love my intro scene. I love how I'm introduced in the film. I think it's super strong."
Mendes also described it as "trippy" that her portrayal of Teela has been immortalised in a Barbie doll.
She said: "It's trippy. I mean, I played with Barbies as a kid, but never in a million years did I think that I'd be able to be a part of something that would call for me to have a Barbie.
"I think it's even cooler because this is a warrior Barbie. I love that combination. It's amazing."
