Don Mancini has a new Chucky movie in the works.

The horror writer - whose first film about the murderous doll, Child's Play, was released in 1988 - has told fans he plans to bring the iconic character back to the big screen, almost two years after a spin-off TV show was cancelled by Syfy.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Don announced at Pennsylvania's Steel City Con: “I’m writing a new Chucky movie.

“I’m also trying to develop a new TV series with Jennifer Tilly. A friend of mine, his name is Laurent Bouzereau… so that’s something we’re developing with Jennifer. And I’m also writing a new non-Chucky horror movie. A haunted house story.”

The outlet reported Don will also direct his upcoming film, as well as writing the script, and is keen for it to be very scary, echoing the tone of the original Child's Play movies.

The plan is also for the film to be released in cinemas, marking Chucky's return to the big screen for the first time in over 20 years because both Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky were released direct-to-video.

While it is unknown what the story of the movie will be, Jennifer Tilly - who plays the murderous doll Tiffany in the franchise - recently reassured fans her character will return, despite the cancellation of the show.

She told Entertainment Tonight: “I know for a fact there is more Chucky and Tiffany in the works. The gruesome twosome.”

Don previously praised fans of the franchise for their support following the viral #RenewChucky campaign which trended after it was announced in September 2024 that the Chucky series was to end after three seasons.

He wrote on X at the time: “HE’LL BE BACK. I have so much love for our amazing fans. Your #RenewChucky campaign meant the world to me during a very difficult time. Chucky says to tell all of you, quoting himself: ‘See ya real soon.'”

The horror writer had previously teased he was "really excited" about an idea he had for season four of the show.

He told The Direct: “I already pitched it to the network. So fingers crossed because it’s something I really like to do."

The franchise was launched in 1988 with Child's Play, which Don co-wrote with John Lafia and director Tom Holland.

He also wrote Childs Play 2 (1990), Child’s Play 3 (1991), Bride of Chucky (1998), Seed of Chucky (2004), Curse of Chucky (2013) and Cult of Chucky (2017), and took on directing duties with the last three of those movies.
