Dame Joanna Lumley has admitted the idea of "young people having Botox" makes her "want to faint".

The Absolutely Fabulous star, 79 hasn't undergone any cosmetic procedures and she's "too lazy" to have a facial - confessing she often just washes her face with soap - and she can't understand why anyone in their twenties would resort to wrinkle-freezing jabs.

She told The Telegraph newspaper: "The idea of young people having Botox in their 20s makes you want to faint. But when I was 20 there was no such thing. Would we all have jumped on the bandwagon? Who knows?

"In the old days, we put on some make-up, hoped we’d get away with it, went out and smiled. Ultimately, if you want to look fabulous, smile and be kind."

Joanna added of her skincare regime: "I wash my face with whatever soap’s lying on the side of the bath and hot water, and when my skin’s dry, I put on Lancome.

"I’ve used them for years – sometimes eye pencils, sometimes night creams, and I’m faithful because you buy it and it works ...

"I’m too busy, too lazy [to have facials]. Sometimes I put a hot flannel on my face. I never go to manicurists."

Joanna - who started her career as a model before becoming an actress - went on to share her best make-up trick, adding: "Stand well back [from a mirror] and see if you’ve got any bones visible.

"If you’re lucky, you’ve got cheekbones – always put highlighter there. Think of your face as a sculpture: something on the forehead, cheekbones, maybe the nose, upper lip. A bit of something darkish under the cheekbones. That’s it."

It comes after Joanna previously admitted she used to be "insecure" about her appearance in her younger days but she has since realised vanity is just a "waste of time" now.

She told MyWeekly magazine: "I have no vanity. I don’t care what I look like. I don’t care if I’m fat or thin, I don’t care what people think of me.

"When I was younger, I had insecurities about how I looked, but the didn’t last. I realised that vanity is a waste of time and energy!"

The TV star also confessed she does her own hair because she learned styling tricks during her modelling days.

She added: "I’ve always done my own hair. It’s partly because I kind of can do it. I was a model in the Sixties – we had to do our own hair then, we had to sort it, do it, put on wigs, cut it, change it, dye it ... so I got used to it. I just go down to the supermarket and buy stuff off the shelves and stick it on."
