Marcus Mumford explains 'amazing' encounter with Kendrick Lamar in 'his undies'
Marcus Mumford was once summoned backstage to meet Kendrick Lamar and the singer was left stunned as the musician stripped to "his undies" during their chat.
Marcus Mumford was "amazed" when Kendrick Lamar stripped to "his undies" during a backstage meeting.
The Mumford and Sons star revealed he was once summoned to the rapper's dressing room for a chat after a performance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee and Marcus was left stunned when Kendrick started stripping off as they were talking.
During an appearance on the SmartLess podcast, Marcus explained: "When I was invited, very explicitly invited, backstage was after Kendrick Lamar played Bonnaroo.
"There was a message that came down from on high that Kendrick would like to see you. When Kendrick calls, you come, right, because he’s the king."
He added: "He took almost all of his clothes as I walked in. It was amazing. I thought, like, the gumption to be like: 'Yeah, come on back after the show and it will be the very moment I take all my clothes off and I’m just down to my undies and we’ll have a chat'."
Marcus added: "Real confidence. Swag."
It comes after Marcus opened up about his life away from show business - growing vegetables at home with his actress wife Carey Mulligan.
Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett's Dish podcast, Marcus revealed the couple produce a lot of their own food because they are committed to a sustainable lifestyle.
When asked if he grows his own food, Marcus answered: "Yeah. We do runner beans, radishes and butternut squash. We eat a lot of squash. I love squash. It's the stuff that requires less maintenance. Because we'll go away for a while and come back and then there'll be radishes everywhere. And then we'll eat radishes only for a few weeks. But yeah, it's amazing what you can do with quite a small bit of soil. But I'm not very good at the admin bit. And summers, we're away. Like all summer. It's a full-time job."
Marcus - who shares two properties with Promising Young Woman star Carey, a 16th-century farmhouse in Devon and a London residence - loves to cook for guests at his home and he revealed Taylor Swift is the most famous person he has cooked for - explaining she absolutely loved his signature dish, a cauliflower salad.
He said: "It's pretty good. We've got it pretty dialled at this point. Roasted but pretty much burnt cauliflower and then pine nuts, feta, on a spinach bed, and avocado. Then just balsamic and olive oil.
"Taylor Swift came and stayed and did some recording and loved it so much. We ate it almost every night in COVID. It was either that– or spicy broccoli salad.
"We just got into a vibe of just eating that. And she came towards the end of COVID, and we were still very much in our cauliflower era. She has since taken it away, she calls it the ‘Mumford salad'."
