Microsoft Copilot coming to current-gen Xbox consoles
Microsoft has confirmed that its AI-powered Gaming Copilot assistant will launch on Xbox Series X|S consoles later in 2026, expanding the tool from its current beta on PC and mobile to help players with gameplay tips, recommendations and account information directly on console.
Microsoft has confirmed that its AI-powered assistant Gaming Copilot will arrive on current-generation Xbox consoles later in 2026.
The feature, which has been available in beta on PC, mobile devices and the ROG Xbox Ally since last year, is designed to act as an in-game companion that can answer gameplay questions, offer tips and provide account-related information while players are gaming.
Speaking at a panel during the Game Developers Conference, Xbox gaming AI partner group product manager Sonali Yadav revealed the expansion plans.
Yadav said: "I'm excited to announce that later this year, we will bring Gaming Copilot to the current-generation consoles, and we will continue to bring it to more services that players are playing."
While Microsoft did not explicitly name the hardware, the announcement is widely understood to refer to the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
Gaming Copilot functions as a contextual assistant integrated into the gaming experience.
Players can ask questions related to the title they are currently playing - such as how to craft items or complete objectives - and receive immediate answers without needing to leave the game.
For example, Microsoft has demonstrated players asking questions like how to gather materials needed to craft a sword in Minecraft.
The assistant can also recommend games, display account information and check subscription details, including renewal dates for Xbox Game Pass.
So far, the beta rollout has generated relatively little controversy within the gaming community, though that could change as the feature becomes available to a much larger audience on console.
Yadav said feedback from early users has already helped refine the system.
She added: "We've learned a lot this past year, and appreciate all of the feedback that we've gotten from the community."
