Just Cause dev Avalanche to close UK studio following Contraband cancellation
Avalanche Studios has announced it will close its Liverpool office and cut staff in Sweden following the cancellation of Xbox exclusive Contraband.

Avalanche Studios has announced it will be closing its UK studio.
The developer - which is best known for helming the Just Cause franchise - confirmed it would be shuttering its Liverpool office and reducing the workforce in its Malmo and Stockholm studios “in light of current challenges to [its] business and the industry”.
In a statement published on its website, Avalanche said: “This review had led us to the difficult conclusion that we must make changes to our staffing and locations.
“As a result, we are proposing to close our Liverpool studio, and to initiate a collective consultation process, as required by UK law. This will impact all Avalanchers in Liverpool.
“The changes will also impact our other studio locations in Malmo and Stockholm, where we will reduce our workforce and restructure the teams to address our games' needs.”
The statement concluded: “Our immediate focus is to offer full support to all Avalanchers during this challenging time.
“Despite these changes, we remain deeply committed to providing amazing games to our passionate player communities.”
The closure comes a month after Avalanche’s Xbox exclusive title Contraband was cancelled.
The shelving of Contraband came soon after Microsoft purged many of its studios and canned some of its upcoming games, including The Initiative's Perfect Dark, Rare’s Everwild, and an unannounced ZeniMax MMO.
